It’s not often that a skin treatment has a pop culture moment as big as the vampire facial did when Kim Kardashian infamously Instagrammed her experience.  How can we forget the image of Kim’s face covered in blood?  Some people were grossed out.  But for those of us skincare junkies, we were intrigued.  We’ll try just about anything for the promise of rejuvenated, glowing skin!

The vampire facial may look strange but the use of platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, for healing...

Diamonds, aestheticians, dogs, your ride or die chick... all must-haves on the list of a girl’s best friend.  If you’re skincare-obsessed like I am, there is one more essential item that must be included in the top five spots… FILLER.

When it comes to restoring and maintaining a youthful appearance (and isn’t that exactly what we’re all trying to do with our skincare game?!) FILLERS. ARE. LIFE.

Even if you’ve never had cosmetic injections it’s likely that you’ve seen Kylie Jenner’s lips, the chang...

How long is this going to last?

That’s the number one question in all aesthetics.  We will do, invest, and make efforts that seem crazy to most all in the name of skin rejuvenation.  We don’t care if the treatment requires us to wear a mask of bird poop or bathe in our own plasma as long as we see results.  We don’t ask how but we do ask how long.  We ask it when purchasing product, when thinking about a skin treatment, when considering a procedure, when consulting a plastic surgeon, and just ab...

"What step are you on?!"  These are the words I hear my husband yelling into the bathroom as I do my nightly skincare routine.  I usually lie and say that I'm on step 7 or 8, when really I'm on step 1B because tonight is exfoliation night.  He knows better than to believe me and falls asleep watching Seinfeld reruns while I have my nightly self care time.  We've been doing this routine for 20 years and every night I'm thankful for a partner than understands the importance of good skincare....

We all know the importance of sunscreen.  If you don’t, let me take this time to say definitively that sunscreen is the single most important product you can put on your skin.  I realize that you might have seen conflicting reports about the safety of certain sunscreen ingredients (and that’s a topic for another blog), but (for the purpose of this blog) the thing I want to impress upon you is you need to wear sunscreen.  Find the sunscreen that feels right to you, a broad spectrum, SPF 30,...

Skincare is a journey.  And, just like any good road trip, it's the most fun when you take it with your best friend.  On the road to great skincare, your bestie is your aesthie!

I acknowledge that I might be a little biased because I am a licensed aesthetician and, as an educator for SkinCeuticals, I spend most of my professional time with other aestheticians.  But it really is true that, while you can do great things alone, your best results are going to come when you take the skincare...

Cleansing with oil?  Yes!  Or, Hell no, I am not putting oil on my face!!  Which answer describes you?

These two reactions seem to be what you get when you start talking about cleansing oils.  I used to be in the latter group but have since done an enthusiastic 180 and have landed hard in the Yes! group.  I had just started my experimentation with using a cleansing oil when I talked with Medical Aesthetician, Sonia Escareno, for The SkinCrush Podcast.  During...

In my work as an educator for L’Oreal, I have the privilege of talking with aestheticians across the county about skincare, best practices, and growing their businesses.  In these conversations I often hear how they believe in the products and services they offer, but don’t want to be seen as salespeople.  As a result of these good intentions, they hold back information so they don’t appear pushy.  Having spent several years working as an aesthetician myself, I understand this inclination becaus...

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends choosing a sunscreen that has three key features.

1) SPF 30

2) Broad spectrum

3) Water resistant

All three of these key features are essential in choosing an excellent sunscreen (and when it comes to the protection of our gorgeous faces, why we would we accept anything less than excellent?!).  So today we are going to talk specifically about key feature number one, SPF.  This is the number that you see on every sunscreen bottle letting you know about th...

Listening to podcasts is one of my favorite things to do.  I always make sure to have lots of episodes downloaded every week.  Some make me laugh, some make me cry, and some light a much needed fire under my Jennifer Lopez (that’s code for my kind of big, but not quite as sculpted backside).  One of my favorites is The Influencer Podcast by Julie Solomon.  This podcast is full of little gems of information that never fail to inspire.  One such little gem came from an interview with influencer an...
